Port Monmouth

Seabrook-Wilson House
Built in 1663 as a tavern, visitors at the Seabrook-Wilson House report witnessing several spirits, including that of a young boy, a bearded sailor, and a woman in white. The Seabrook-Wilson House is sometimes also referred to as the Spy House, due to the fact that it was owned by a member of the New Jersey militia during the American Revolutionary War.

Berrys Chapel
​Berrys Chapel was built during the early 1800’s by a hidden community of African American slaves, and was allegedly used as a stop on the underground railroad due to it’s remote location in the woods. According to legend, the church was burned down by a group of Ku Klux Klan members, and the entire congregation was killed. Although the chapel foundation and cemetery still remain, many graves were vandalized or dug up, and many claim that the site was once used as a gathering place by a satanic cult. Investigators at Berrys chapel report hearing a variety of disembodied sounds, such as voices, footsteps, and the sounds of people singing or praying. Others report feeling cold spots or unexplained drops in temperature, or feeling a strange presence. The chapel is said to appear at night in flames, accompanied by the sounds of disembodied screams.

Merchants’ & Drovers’ Tavern Museum
Merchant’s & Drovers’ Tavern was constructed in 1773 as a stagecoach inn, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in November of 1978. It is said to be haunted by the spirits of former stagecoach travelers and tavern employees who passed away.

Rahway Cemetery
Established in the 1720’s, Rahway Cemetery is the final resting place for 70 American Revolutionary War soldiers and almost 300 Civil War soldiers. It is said to be haunted by the spirits of the former soldiers who died in combat.
