Adams

Plunkett Hospital
Plunkett Hospital is said to be haunted by the ghosts of its former patients. The doors and windows are boarded up, but locals still report seeing ghostly figures through at night and hearing mysterious screams.

Turn Hall
​Turn Hall is haunted by the ghosts of several former partons, most notably is the ghost of a former gymnastics coach who committed suicide. She and the other spirits who haunt the hall are most often encountered in the basement area, either at the bar or the gym. The residents of the apartment upstairs report having strange encounters in the building, though they say that the ghosts there are mostly friendly.


Allston

West End House Boys & Girls Club
​The West End House Boys & Girls Club was built in the 1930s, and was used as a club for elderly men. Employees and visitors report seeing the apparitions of older men, and the showers sometimes turn on and off by themselves.

Andover

Harold Parker State Forest
​It is rumored that among the abandoned ruins and houses, there are unmarked graves. Visitors report seeing a strange green light in the woods beyond the stone walls, and footsteps are often heard at night.

Arlington

Robbins Cottage
​Residents over the years report seeing the ghost of an older woman dressed in servants clothing in the back rooms who sometimes walks through walls. The cottage is located directly next to a cemetery. asdawe 

Amesbury

Lake Gardner
​According to legend, many natives were drowned in Lake Gardner by settlers, or killed on its shores. Visitors report seeing and hearing their ghosts on the shores and in the woods surrounding the lake.

Ashland

The John Stone Tavern (Stone’s Public House)
Psychics who have investigated the tavern claim that there are seven spirits who reside there, one of which is thought to be John Stone himself. Guests report having “strange feelings” in certain areas of the house, and glasses sometimes fly off the shelves or move by themselves. There are also rumors of a body that is buried in the basement.

Stone’s Public House Office Building
The office building behind The John Stone Tavern is rumored to be haunted by the ghost of a custodian who died one night after falling from a ladder on the top floor. Ever since, employees report seeing an apparition in the upstairs lobby, and fire alarms and other electronics in the building are also known to malfunction frequently.


Assonet

Old Village House
​The first selectman of the town of Assonet is said to have killed his daughter by pushing her out of the second story window. Residents report hearing footsteps on the stairs when nobody is around, and doors open and close on their own without warning. At night, people passing by the house often report seeing the lights of candles in the windows.

Athol

Adams Cemetery
Adams Cemetery is known by locals as “the Adams Dumping Ground,” because it’s where the mad Dr. Adams once disposed of his failed animal experiments. At night, disembodied laughter can be heard, and the apparitions of the animals that were buried there are seen by locals.

The Seven Gates
It is known to locals as “The Gates to Hell,” because  it was once home to a cult who performed satanic rituals. The site where the rituals were performed is marked by seven gates leading into a clearing in the woods. Visitors report hearing strange whispers at night, and the ghosts of animals that were sacrificed are sometimes seen hanging from trees in the woods.

The Rotunda Bowling Alley
The Rotunda is believed to be haunted by the ghosts of its former patrons who died when a bomb went off inside of the building. Employees working at night report hearing the laughs of the children who were killed there, and strange footsteps coming from upstairs. It is also rumored that a woman hung herself on the upstairs floor when the Rotunda used to be a theater.


Attleboro

Bristol Nursing Home
Residents and employees alike say that the Bristol Nursing Home is haunted. Apparitions of children can be seen throughout the building, and a strange presence is sometimes felt in certain areas. Strange music can often be heard, and those who hear it say that it sounds inhuman. There are even some who believe that the nursing home is home to a demonic presence.

St. Stephen’s Cemetery
St. Stephen’s Cemetery is believed to be haunted by a young girl and her family. ​Visitors sometimes report seeing apparitions, and childrens footsteps are heard in the cemetery at night.


Auburn

Hope Cemetery
The disembodied voices of children can be heard laughing and playing in the cemetery, and visitors report seeing apparitions near the statue of Jesus. Hope Cemetery is surrounded by smaller cemeteries, and is believed by many to be haunted.

Stone Tavern
​Stone Tavern is believed to be haunted by the spirit of a young girl.


Ayer

Ft. Devens
Police who patrol the Fr. Devens ​report seeing lights flashing inside of buildings that have been abandoned for many years. A piano is also heard playing inside of the old movie house.

Baldwinville

Otter River State Forest Cemetery
​The Otter River State Forest Cemetery is said to be haunted by a ghost named “Rudy,” who will reveal himself if asked. Visitors report feeling a strange presence in the cemetery, and some also report seeing the figure of a man hanging from one of the trees.

Becket

Becket Quarry
In the early 1900s, over 200 deaths were reported during the construction of Becket Quarry. Investigators report having electrical equipment such as flashlights malfunction at the top of the quarry, and an eerie sensation is often felt, as if being watched. Some visitors even report being touched, or chased away from the quarry by mysterious forces.

Bedford

Dudley Road
Dudley Road is said by locals to be haunted by the ghosts of a group of nuns who was hung for practicing witchcraft during the early 1800s. While driving on the road at night, the apparitions of the nuns can be seen walking to the gallows, reliving their final moments. In the fog, their apparitions look like demons.

Hanscom Air Force Base
The area known as “the ridge” is said to be haunted. At night, flashing lights and shadow figures can be seen in the area, and the MPs on the base report that there is a satanic cult operating within the area. The ridge is patrolled heavily by police.


Belchertown

Belchertown State School
Those who have visited Belchertown State School over the years all claim that it is haunted. Running footsteps and screams can be heard, and cold spots are felt throughout the school. Doors open and close by themselves, even when locked. There is also a part of the property near the woods where nothing grows.

Belchertown State School
The Belchertown State School was once a mental institution, especially well known for its unethical treatment of residents. According to legend, there was once a boy and girl who were sent to the school who fell in love. However it was not socially acceptable for those with mental afflictions to marry or date, so they were not allowed to see eachother. It is said that at night, they would sneak out of their dormitories to see eachother. Some claim that their spirits still meet at night, and are seen in different locations of the school. One of the buildings on the campus was recently renovated and turned into a Teen Center, with an outdoor skateboard park. Even in the daytime, those walking between the buildings report feeling an eerie presence, as if they were being watched.

Tadgell Primary School
​The Tadgell Primary School is located on the Belchertown State School campus, and was still used as an elementary school until recently. Mirrors and pictures are known to fall from the walls, and students often report feeling as if they are being watched. Objects move by themselves, and the stall doors in the downstairs bathroom often close and lock themselves. A strange trail of blood is sometimes seen in the basement bathrooms, but can only be seen on certain nights.


Bellingham

Jo-Anne’s Restaurant
​Customers and employees used to report seeing the ghost of a young man dressed in Civil War era clothing. The building has since been torn down, however it is unknown whether or not this area continues to be haunted.

Beverly

Cavendish Square
Cavendish Square is said to be haunted by the ghost of a local woman who slit her throat in the square. Residents report seeing the face of a spectral woman in mirrors, and hearing faint voices in their homes. Windows and doors inside of houses open and close on their own.

Conant Street Cemetery
Visitors to the cemetery report hearing strange, inhuman noises, and orbs are frequently captured in photographs.

Endicott College
Brindle Hall is haunted by a ghost named “Julie,” who went missing from the 4th floor of the dorm many years ago and was never found. Students in Brindle Hall report hearing strange noises in the hallways, and blinds move up and down on their own. Students sometimes see her name written in frost on the windows.
Reynolds Hall is also believed to be haunted by the ghost of a young girl, whose reflection is sometimes seen in mirrors and windows. The piano is heard playing by itself, and pictures often fall from the walls, or are found face down. 
Winthrop Hall is haunted by the ghost of a woman wearing a white gown. It is thought that she died while waiting for her husband to return from sea. Upon finding out that her husband was killed, she committed suicide by jumping from the cliffs by the mansion. Students and visitors often see her walking by the cliffs, and in the yard.

​Ocean View Assisted Living Facility
​The top floor penthouse is said to be haunted. Employees report seeing the reflections of apparitions in windows and mirrors, and most will not go upstairs alone at night. The Ocean View Assisted Living Facility used to be the old Brisco School.


Billerica

Billerica High School
Billerica High School is said to be haunted by the ghosts of dead war veterans, who are infamous for frightening students by following them around and breathing down their necks. The 3rd floor is also haunted by the ghost of a man wearing suspenders. Those who have seen him describe him as having a terrifying, deformed face, and he glows red. He is only seen at night.

Boston

Berklee College of Music
The Massachusetts Ave dorms were once a hotel that burned down in a fire. Students frequently report seeing the apparitions of fire victims in their dorm room.

Boston Common
There is a rumor that the Boston Common is haunted by the ghosts of two women dressed in 1800s clothing. Those who have seen the two women say that they disappear immediately upon being approached.

Boston Conservatory
The dormitories at the Boston Conservatory used to be a hospital in the 1800s, and many residents have reported strange occurrences. Doors slam, items go missing and appear in strange places, and disembodied voices are heard.

Boston University
Shelton Hall is said to be haunted by the ghost of the famous playwrite, Eugene O’Niel, who died on the 4th floor when the dormitory was still being used as a hotel. The 4th floor is now reserved for students who are majoring in writing.

Catholic Memorial Boys School
The Catholic Memorial Boys School is haunted by the ghost of a former brother, who is often heard talking in the hallways.

Charlesgate Condos
The Charlesgate Condos have a long history of paranormal activity. Originally built as a hotel, it is said to be haunted by the ghosts of its various clientel, who were mostly drug addicts and prostitutes. Researchers have caught evidence of ghostly presences at this location.

East Boston Public Library
Employees working the late shift report seeing the ghost of a former librarian in the basement. During the daytime, visitors report hearing movement and conversation coming from the basement.

Majestic Theatre
The Majestic Theater is said to be haunted by the ghost of Bostons former mayor, who died in the theater during a performance. There are also reports of a young girl, and a married couple dressed in early 1900s clothing that haunts one of the balconies.

The Everett Theatre
It is rumored that sometime during the 1700s, a man killed an entire balcony full of guests by cutting down the stage lights above it. The theater is currently closed, but those who are brave enough to investigate the location say that the screams and cries of those who were murdered there can still be heard.

Ft. Warren
Ft. Warren was once used as a Civil War prison, and is haunted by the ghost of a woman in black, who is believed to be the wife of Lt. Andrew Lanier. According to the legend, Lt. Lanier was imprisoned at Ft. Warren, so his wife came to Boston to rescue him. Late one night she snuck into Ft. Warren, but upon rescuing her husband, they were captured and the Lieutenant was killed in a shootout. His wife was sentenced to be hanged, and it is said that she went to the gallows in a black dress.

Genova Inn
Guests at the Genova Inn often report hearing footsteps when they are alone, and TVs sometimes turn on by themselves in the middle of the night. Some guests have even reported having the blankets yanked off of them, and seeing a mysterious figure floating above them as they lay in bed.

The Parker House
The Parker House Hotel is said by employees to be haunted by several spirits. Disembodied voices are heard in the lobby and throughout the hallways, and many employees have reported seeing apparitions of dead aristocrats from long ago. Lights turn on and off by themselves, and doors open and close suddenly.

Pilot House Restaurant
The Pilot House was built in 1839 as a dormitory where pilots or ship captains would stay overnight while on duty. Employees report hearing men laughing and glasses clinking at night, and doors slam shut by themselves without warning. A woman in white is also said to haunt the kitchen area on the 1st floor.


Bourne

Sagamore Beach
​The spirit of a young women is sometimes seen walking along the shores of Sagamore Beach. Those who have seen her claim that she glows blue.

Brewster

The Captain Freeman Perry House
The Captain Freeman Perry House is said to be haunted by a ghost named “Roberta.” It is currently an antique shop, but it is known by locals for being haunted.

Crosby Mansion
Very few know the true location of the Crosby Mansion, but those who have been there report seeing flashing lights within the building​, and mysterious blood trails on the stairs leading inside. The mansion has been abandoned for many years.


Bridgewater

Bridgewater State College
Bridgewater State College is haunted by many spirits.
Campus Center Auditorium is haunted by the ghost of a man named “George” who plays with the lights on stage and instruments in the orchestra pit. 
There is said to be a poltergeist haunting Shea-Durgin Hall. A woman was also strangled in Room 208 by a jealous lover, and residents who stay in the room have reported hearing strange choking noises.
Tillinghast Hall is said to be haunted by the ghost of one of the former house mothers, who died after falling from the roof. The house mothers spirit is known for opening and closing doors, and turning lights in the hallways on and off. She sometimes chases men from the dorm at night.
Wood Hall is haunted by the ghost of a woman who committed suicide by lighting herself on fire. It is rumored that she sometimes runs through the halls, banging on doors and shouting “fire!”
The Bridgewater State College Apartments are also said to be hautned. Residents say there are knocks on their doors when nobody is there, and some report catching a strange whiff of something rotting or decaying.

Burger King
Many people report seeing the aparition of a young girl in Colonial-era clothing by the fireplace.

Camp Titticut
Camp Titticut is rumored to be haunted by two ghosts. The first is the ghost of a young boy who drowned in the lake when the camp was still used as a boys camp. Although the cabins and camp were torn down by the town, the young boys spirit is still seen wandering the woods.
The ghost of King Phillip is also believed to haunt the camp. Upon being captured, King Phillip was drawn and quartered, and his remains were scattered throughout the state of Massachusetts so that his spirit could not ever move on.

William H. McElwain School
One of the bathrooms in the William H. McElwain School is believed to be haunted by the ghost of a former studen. The stall doors in this particular bathroom are known to open and close by themselves.

The Bridgewater Triangle
The Bridgewater Triangle is said to be one of the most haunted areas in the United States. According to Wikipedia, the Bridgewater Triangle “refers to an area of about 200 square miles within southeastern Massachusetts, claimed to be the site of alleged paranormal phenomena, ranging from UFOs to poltergeists and orbs, balls of fire, and other spectral phenomena.” There have also been numerous bigfoot sightings, and sightings of “thunderbirds.” Black helicopters fly over the area frequently, but it is unknown if they are there because of these phenomena or not.

The Nip
The Nip is rumored to be haunted by the ghost of an old man who drowned one night while fishing on his boat. Many locals have reported seeing the mans boat on the lake at night.

Hockomock Swamp
​Hockomock Swamp is part of what locals call “The Bridgewater Triangle,” which is said to be one of the most haunted areas in the country. The ghosts of dead Native Americans are often seen by locals canoeing in the swamp, and the ghost of a young girl who drowned in the swamp is also seen.


Brockton

The Cape Cod Cafe
Visitors report hearing a baby crying even when there are no children present. It is rumored that a baby choked to death in one of the booths while the babies mother sat at the bar drinking.

Melrose Cemetery
​Visitors report hearing footsteps in the cemetery at night, and sinister laughter is sometimes heard coming from the back of the cemeter.


Burlington

Burlington Mall
The Sears Warehouse at the Burlington Mall is rumored to be haunted. Objects sometimes fall from shelves without warning, and footsteps and disembodied voices are heard when nobody is around.

Sawmill Road
​There is a house at the end of Sawmill Road that is said to be haunted by the ghost of an old man.


Cambridge

The YMCA
The YMCA is rumored to be haunted by the glowing green ghost of a man who died there in the 1930s.

Cambridge Rindge & Latin School
The War Memorial Pool Hall is haunted by the ghost of an old man pushing a cart up and down the hallway with the World War II memorial.

Matignon High School
The ghost of a nun is said to haunt the hallways around Room 204. There are also rumors of a student hanging himself in that room. Lights turn on and off by themselves, and many students and teachers report seeing apparitions in the reflection of glass doors. 

Verna’s Donut Shop
​Employees report seeing shadowy figures in the basement area, which is currently being used as a storage room. Some employees will not go into the basement alone.


Canton

Paul Revere’s Workshop
Windows and doors sometimes open by themselves, ​and objects are known to disappear and reappear in strange places. The property is currently a house that is being rented out to families.

Cape Cod

The Barnstable Inn
​Doors slam by themselves, and drinks are sometimes knocked over by a mysterious force.

Charlemont

The Charlemont Inn
​The Charlemont Inn is said to be haunted by several different spirits. The most famous spirit is a teenage girl named Elizabeth. She is known for being mischevious, stomping up the stairs, and slamming doors. The ghost of a Civil War soldier has also been seen from time to time.

Chelmsford

Bainbridge’s Restaurant
​Brainbridge’s Restaurant is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman and her child. Pictures and other objects have been seen moving by themselves, and employees hear the sounds of a woman and child playing when they are working alone at night.

Chelsea

The Cary House
According to local legend, two Civil War soldiers were killed in the Cary House after Ms. Cary was caught having an affair with both a Confederate and Union army soldier. Since the incident, residents of the Cary House have reported hearing voices laughing and wine glasses clinking on the anniversary of Mrs. Cary’s wedding night. The house has many secret passageways, and visitors report feeling as if they are being watched.

Voke Park
Those who have visited Voke Park at night claim that the ghost of a young, bloody boy can be seen. According to locals, he was mauled by two dogs at the park, where he died.

The YMCA
The ghost of a young boy who drowned in the pool is often seen by swimmers. According to police, he hit his head on the diving board and wasn’t found until the next morning.


Chestnut Hill

Pine Manor College
​Students report seeing lights turn on and off by themselves in the Administration building at night. Visitors in the area also feel a strange presence, as if being watched, and sometimes a strange mist can be seen on clear nights.

Chinatown

Tai Tung Village School
The Tai Tung Village School is said to be haunted by the ghost of an elderly woman. Students have reported seeing her on the basement floor in the women’s bathroom, but she immediately disappears.

​Cold spots are often felt near the mural, and sometimes at night the ghost of a small man is seen emerging from the wall.


Clinton

Abandoned Train Tunnel
There is an abandoned train tunnel in the middle of the woods that is rumored to be haunted. Visitors report feeling abnormal coldspots on warm nights, and a train is sometimes heard coming through the tunnel even though the railroad tracks have been unused for many years. The echoes and vibrations from the tunnel also cause eerie, haunting sounds, and the end of the tunnel appears to grow further the closer it gets.

Cohasset

Jerusalem Road
There is a house on Jerusalem Road that overlooks an outlet from the ocean,  and a statue of a girl looking over the cliff into the water below. The statue was constructed by the original residents of the house after their daughter fell from the cliff and drowned. Visitors say that on summer nights, the young girls ghost can be seen walking toward the cliff, but she disappears when approached. Some visitors have also seen the statue move by itself. 

Cohasset Town Hall
​The Cohasset Town Hall is said to be haunted by a poltergeist. Cold spots are felt throughout the building, and workers sometimes report hearing moans and chains coming from the jail cells in the basement.


Concord

The Colonial Inn
​Room 24 is rumored to be haunted by “the grey ghost.” But who is this spirit, and why does he haunt the Colonial Inn?

Coolidge Pointe

​The Coolidge House is said to be haunted by the spirit of a woman in a wheelchair. peenis 

Danvers

The Town of Danvers
The Town of Danvers is said to be subject to a wide array of paranormal occurences. Residents of the town have reported seeing phantoms and specters walking down certain roads at night, and a ghost named Abigail is said to haunt the area near the cemetery where she is buried.

Danvers State Mental Hospital
In 2007, all of the buildings were torn down to build condominiums, except for the old Administration building. Locals still report seeing candles inside of the abandoned Administration building. It is unknown whether or not the condos surrounding the old hospital are haunted.

Endicott Cemetery
There are three spirits rumored to haunt the cemetery; an elderly woman named Margaret, and her two boys, Jeremy and Alex. All of the headstones in Endicott Cemetery have been knocked over or vandalized except for the three belonging to Margaret, Jeremy, and Alex.

Peabody Institute Library
The 3rd floor of the Peabody Institute Library is said to be haunted by the spirit of an old man, who is known to “shush” visitors who are being too loud.

The Abandoned Slaughterhouse
​​Visitors report seeing shadows moving and hearing a woman laughing at night.


Dartmouth

Lincoln Park
​​Most buildings have burned down, and the park has been closed down since 1986. It is estimated that over 100 people died at Lincoln Park during its history.  Carnival music and other strange sounds can be heard coming from the park.

Dracut

Dracut State Forest
The spirit of a Native American man is said to stalk the trails at night, and ghostly screams are often heard coming from the forest. Many who have ridden on the trails report seeing ghosts.

The Village Inn
​Workers at The Village Inn report seeing the ghost of a young boy in the lobby, but he disappears when approached. The ghost of a young girl is also seen walking through the tunnel leading from the restaurant to the barn.


Duxbury

The Sun Tavern
The Sun Tavern is said to be haunted by a ghost named Lysander. Guests report feeling cold spots, and the tables have been flipped over​ without warning.

East Bridgewater

East Bridgewater Town Hall
The East Bridgewater Town Hall is said to be haunted by the ghost of an elderly woman. Many clerks and town officials have reported hearing strange noises when the building is empty.

Washington Street Schoolhouse
The Washington Street Schoolhouse is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman and child who died there, but not much else is known about who they were or how they died.


East Otis

The Knox Trail Inn
The Knox Trail Inn is said to be haunted by the ghost of a soldier from the Revolutionary or Civil war. His name is Jake, and he is known for turning lights on and off, and playing other tricks on guests.

Easthampton

Parsons Academy
​The sound of childrens laughter is often heard, and footsteps are heard in the hallways when nobody is there.

Easton

Stonehill College
The pond at Stonehill College is said to be haunted by the ghost of a pilot who was killed after crashing into the pond. It is said that on the anniversary of his death, a blue mist is seen near the pond, and sometimes the pilots ghost can be seen trying to swim to shore.

Everett

Pope John XXIII High School
The 5th floor of the Pope John XXIII High School is said to be haunted by the ghosts of old nuns who have died there over the years. Sometimes the back elevator makes an unexplained detour to the 5th floor, which is off limits to students, and other times it stops on every floor.

Fairhaven

Fairhaven High School
Cold spots are felt and poltergeist activity is reported in the main building, which was built in the early 1800s by Henry Huttleston Rogers. 

Millicent Library
Millicent Library is said to be haunted by the ghost of Henry Huttleston Rogers young daughter, Millicent. It is rumored that Millicent was buried underneath the foundation of the library after she died of heart failure when she was only 17. Doors open and close by themselves, and people visiting the library have reported seeing the ghost of a young girl in the hallways. Passersby report seeing her sillhouette in the upstairs tower window at night.
The basement of the library is also said to be haunted by the ghost of an elderly woman named Heddy Green, whose hat is still stored in the vaults in the basement.


The Nicholas House
The Nicholas House was formerly the Fairhaven Nursing Home. It is said to be haunted by the ghost of an elderly woman who was killed by a car outside. Locals report having their car radios mysteriously begin playing classical music when the pass the house. It is said that the elderly womans ghost still loves classical music, even in death.


Fall River

The Lizzie Borden House
Currently open as the Fall River Bed & Breakfast, the Lizzie Borden house is known internationally as the house where the brutal murders of Lizzie Borden’s father and step-mother took place. Many ghosts have been seen on the second floor of the house, where the murders occured.

Oak Grove Cemetery
Locals who visit at night report seeing lights and hearing screams coming from the Borden’s family plot. Others report feeling a strong negative energy.

Aldea
​It is rumored that a man murdered his family, and then committed suicide in the house. Ever since, visitors report hearing strange noises, and photographs all show unexplained blurs. The house has remained vacant and unchanged over the years.


Falmouth

High Hill Theater
According to legend, the caretakers of the High Hill Theater and mansion all committed suicide on the same night. The ghost of a woman is sometimes seen on the second floor of the mansion, and another caretaker has been seen at the theater. Strange noises and screams are sometimes heard in the nearby woods, as if someone is running through them. There is a message written on the wall in blood, that says “my way in is also my way out.” The town is currently renovating the theater for public use.

Mullen Hall School
​​A female ghost is said to haunt the school, and students report hearing eerie disembodied laughter.


Framingham

Framingham State College
Pierce Hall is rumored to be haunted by a mischievous ghost who is known for taking down the mirrors in the dorms, and turning lights on and off. Residents of Mann hall also report experiencing a large number of paranormal occurrences. Mann hall was built over an old building that had burned down.

Learning Center For the Deaf
The Learning Center For the Deaf is said to be haunted by a ghost named Max, who is seen often by visitors.


Feeding Hills

Robinson State Park

​The Revolutionary Cemetery, also known by locals as “the Rev,” has been host to many paranormal occurrences over the years. At night, screams are heard coming from the surrounding woods, and visitors report feeling an eerie presence. There are also rumors of satanic worship in the woods near the cemetery.

Foxboro

Foxboro State Hospital
​Visitors report feeling cold spots, and seeing the ghost of a former employee. The hospital was recently torn down, but locals still report seeing strange, ghostly figures near the old buildings. The area is now used as a condominium complex and strip mall.

Gardner

Bridge Road
In 1995, a woman was killed in a car accident on Bridge Road. Locals have reported seeing a strange misty figure on the road. The woman’s ghost is said to follow travelers down the road, but stops at the cemetery.

East Gardner Mental Hospital
Those who have been inside the East Gardner Mental Hospital report hearing strange, disembodied noises, and seeing strange figures. The hospital is located next to a prison, so it is heavily guarded.

Old Gardner Cinema
The Old Gardner Cinema on Parker Street is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young actress named Alice, who was killed when a sandbag fell from above the stage and landed on her during a performance. Alice is often seen by patrol officers on the night shift, either in the main lobby or on the staircase.

The Victorian
​According to investigators, The Victorian in south Gardener is both haunted and protected by the spirits of several of it’s former residents. The oldest spirit residing at The Victorian is that of a 19 year old servant, who is believed to have passed away in the late 1800s. The ghost of a man who was killed in a fire also haunts the house, as well as a young boy who often visited the mansion. Orbs, disembodied footsteps, and shadow figures are often seen by visitors, especially on the 3rd floor. The Victorian gives guided tours to those interested.


Gloucester

Hammond Castle
Hammond Castle is said to be haunted by the spirits of its original occupants; an inventor, and his wife. The custodian who works nights at the castle has reported seeing both the inventor and his wife. The castle was built in the early 1900s, and is now a museum.

Dog Town
​The early residents of Dog Town hid themselves in the woods to avoid detection by enemies. Over the years, many men died at sea or on fishing ventures, and the wives who felt lonely waiting for their husbands to return often got dogs to keep them company. When the village was abandoned, the dogs were left behind to become feral, which is why the locals call it “Dog Town.” Since being abandoned, several murders have occurred in the village. According to legend, there is treasure somewhere in the village that is guarded by the ghost of an elderly woman.


Greenfield

Eunice Williams Covered Bridge
The Eunice Williams Covered Bridge is named after a woman who was murdered in the river. ​Sometime during the 1600s, the nearby town of Deerfield was raided by a band of French soldiers. The captives from the battle were marched through Greenfield, across the Green River. Eunice Williams, who had just given birth earlier that day, could not complete the journey, and was hacked into pieces and thrown in the river. Locals have reported seeing Eunice’s ghost in several places near the river, including the covered bridge and the dam above it.

Groton

Florence Roche School
Disembodied voices can be heard coming from the foundation of the school.

Prescott School
Disembodied footsteps are heard by students in the school, and lights often turn on and off by themselves when the school is closed. The security system at the school had to be downgraded because it wouldn’t stop going off at night for no reason.

​The west end of Groveland Cemetery is said to be haunted by many spirits. The oldest headstones are on the western part of the cemetery, and many strange apparitions have appeared in photographs.

Camp Kiwanee
Visitors report that an old rocking chair often rocks by itself, and screams can be heard. The camp is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman named Alice, who was hung at the camp under questionable circumstances. The skeleton of another man who went missing around the same time as Alice was later found by a young boy who was camping.

Plymouth County Hospital
​Plymouth County Hospital is said to be haunted by the ghosts of its former patients and staff. Once used as a tuberculosis ward, it is unknown how many patients passed away here. Although the hospital is now abandoned, disembodied screams and eerie laughter are often heard, and visitors report feeling a strange presence, as if they are being watched.

Hanover

Hanover Town Hotel
​Before it was remodeled, the Hanover Town Hotel was a well known mental institution that was shut down in the 1930s. It is considered by many to be haunted by the spirits of the former mental patients who died there.

Haverhill

Haverhill Country Club
Haverhill Country Club is said to be haunted by the ghost of one of its former chefs. Employees at the country club have named him “Mr. Z,” and he is often seen and heard in the kitchen areas. Doors throughout the building often open and close by themselves, and objects are often seen moving when nobody is around. Some employees have also reported hearing talking and laughing coming from the pool late at night when nobody is there.

Haverhill Graveyard
A woman in white is said to haunt one of the cemeteries of Haverhill. It is believed that her name is Lydia Ayer.

​Families who have lived in the house report hearing strange noises, and doors sometimes open and close by themselves.

​It is rumored that a satanic cult performs animal sacrifices and other rituals in the empty warehouses. Some have seen ghostly robed figures near the warehouses at night.

​The Walsh Camp is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman named Helen. She can be seen at night walking through the lot.

​The ghost of a boy named Emilio is said to haunt Main Street after being the victim of a drive-by shooting. Emilio’s presence is often felt on the streets at night. Women sometimes say they have felt as if someone was touching them, and men sometimes report being pushed or choked.

Ft. Revere
Shadow figured are seen throughout different buildings in the base, and strange noises and eerie whispers are often heard. Some visitors have even reported having things thrown at them.  

Ft. Warren
Ft. Warren is said by investigators to be haunted by the ghost of a woman in black. According to the legend, the wife of a captured Confederate soldier disguised herself as a Union Army soldier and snuck into the fort in an attempt to free her husband. After being discovered and captured, she was sentenced to be hanged. Her final request before she was executed was that she be allowed to dress in women’s attire at the time of her death. She was given a black gown to wear, and she is now known as “The Woman in Black.” 

Nantasket Beach
​Sometimes when it’s stormy, a phantom ship can be seen off the shoreline, but after the storm passes the ship vanishes.


Hyde Park

Riverside Theater Works
​​Riverside Theater Works is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman named Esmerelda, or “Essie,” as she is referred to by the actors and actresses at the theater. According to the legend, Esmerelda was killed in a fire at French’s Opera House, which is now called Riverside Theater Works. Her favorite chair is still seated at the front of the theater near the stage, and if people do not put flowers on it before a show, she will mess with the lighting during the performance. Her apparition is seen at least once during every performance by the actors and actresses.

Ipswich

Ipswich Light Company
A ghost named Mr. Finch haunts the old company. He is thought to have died sometime during the 1800s.

Lakeville

Lakeville Hospital
​The security officers who guard the old Lakeview Hospital have all reported unexplained paranormal occurrences. Former patients are seen looking out from the upstairs windows, but when the security guards go to investigate nobody is there. Investigators have reported seeing strange lights inside the buildings, and screams are often heard. 

Lancaster

Blood Forest
Blood Forest is said to be haunted by the ghost of a serial killer who locals call “Old Man Blood.” According to legend, Blood killed many families in the forest and hung their bodies from trees. He was caught, but later escaped from a mental institution. He was killed by police when he was found hanging more corpses in the forest. Shadow figures are seen. and screams are often heard in the forest at night.

Dr. Franklin Perkin’s School
The building known as The Manor, which  was built in the late 1800s, is haunted by several spirits. A young girl is often seen running around near one of the bedrooms at night. She has been seen many times wearing a nightcap and a long nightgown. There is another ghost downstairs who is seen walking down the same hallway at the same time every night, as if checking on the bedrooms there. On the 3rd floor, objects frequently move by themselves, and windows are found left open. Footsteps from the 3rd floor can be heard on the floor below even though there isn’t anyone up there.

George Hill
​People who go to the top of the hill have reported being chased down it by a man with an ax, but the man always disappears after a short while. There is a stone on George Hill Road which commemorates a massacre that happened there.


Leicester

Spider Gate Cemetery
​According to urban legends, this cemetery leads to the gates of hell. Children are heard laughing at night, and many mysterious spirits have been seen there. There is also a tree called “the hangin’ tree,” where a man hung himself. It is said that if you bring a certain type of stone to the tree, the devil himself will appear.

Lenox

October Mountain Cemetery
According to investigators, strange noises and ghostly apparitions are often seen at the cemetery on top of October Mountain.

High Point Treatment Center
​The original treatment center was built in 1910, and was turned into an a treatment center for teenage boys in 2005. Those who have stayed there have reported feeling cold spots and being touched, as well as seeing faces looking into the building from outside. The lights also turn on and off by themselves.


Lexington

Battle Road
​Battle Road is the location of one of the very first battles of the Revolutionary War, where a group of British soldiers were ambushed by American colonists and killed. The battle happened at sunset, and those who have been on the road at that time often report experiencing strong feelings of fear and sadness. It is rumored that there are still British soldiers buried on the road.

Lincoln

Lincoln Cemetery
​Strange lights are seen, and screams are often heard coming from the cemetery. There is also a house right next to the cemetery that is said to be haunted by the ghosts of two girls who committed suicide there. Even after the house was torn down and rebuilt, residents still report seeing their spirits and having the lights in the house turn on and off by themselves.

Beaver Brook Road
​The ghost of a farmer is often seen on Beaver Brook Road, and the roads surrounding it. The local newspaper once did a story about the haunting, and discovered that there was in fact a farmer who was killed on the road.

Daley Middle School
The downstairs art classroom is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman who died at the school. Paranormal activity also occurs in the bathrooms near the art classroom.

Dr. An Wang School
Cold spots are often felt in the bathrooms and library, and disembodied screams are heard throughout the school. Items sometimes go missing or appear in strange places. There are also reports of a strange spectral man in the back of the school near an old abandoned military hospital. There are rumors that the Dr. An Wang School was built over an ancient Native American burial ground.

Lowell Memorial Auditorium
Doors slam shut by themselves, and employees working after closing time have reported seeing a ghost wandering the hallways at night. Patrons have also felt as if they were being touched, or their clothing is being tugged. The Lowell Memorial Auditorium was constructed in 1922.

Boot Cotton Mill
Staff and visitors alike report seeing ghostly apparitions on the second floor. The mill is currently a museum.

Lowell Transitional Living Center
Lights are known to turn on and off by themselves, and TVs change channels and turn on and off without warning. Residents have reported hearing a disembodied voice call their name when they are alone downstairs, and objects frequently disappear and then reappear in strange places. Women report having their beds shaken and their covers pulled off at night, and shadows are seen moving near the showers.

​There is a house on Washington Street that used to be a funeral home. Residents over the years have reported objects being thrown, and pictures and mirrors being ripped from the walls. Spirits are seen on many occasions, usually at night.

Dungeon Rock
Deep in the woods of Lynn lies a giant, hollowed-out boulder that was once used as a hiding place for smugglers and pirates. Strange noises are often heard here, and some have reported seeing the spirits of these deceased criminals.

English High School
The auditorium is said to be haunted by the spirit of the school’s former drama teachers. Cold spots occur throughout the auditorium, and the woman’s presence is often felt at rehearsals and performances.

Town of Marblehead
The town of Marblehead is said by many to be built over a large portal or ley-line for psychic energy. Everything from ghostly activity to UFO sightings have been reported there. The name of the town was changed from “Hellmouth” to “Marblehead” sometime during the 1600s.

Olde Burial Hill
The Olde Burial Hill is said by locals to be haunted by the ghost of Wilmot Redd, who hung for practicing Witchcraft. Unlike the others who were hung alongside her, Wilmot is thought to have actually been a practitioner of Witchcraft. It is said that with her dying breath, she uttered a curse onto the town of Marblehead. Locals report that she can still be heard at night. screaming “this town shall burn!” 

The Blue Door Inn
The Blue Door Inn is said by many to be haunted by two benevolent spirits. The first is a ghost named Rosemary, who was one of the early caretakers of the property. The second is a man who died while living in the house. Both spirits have been seen by guests over the years.

Marblehead High School
Many students and faculty report feeling a strange, eerie presence in the school, and there are many reports of poltergeist activity. The fire alarms are known to go off sometimes without warning, and the elevators sometimes stop working. The school is rumored to have been built over an old Native American burial ground.

Marblehead Middle School
The girls locker room is said to be haunted by the ghost of a man who died in a motorcycle accident. The local news in Marblehead also ran a story in 1966 about a UFO sighting that occurred above the school.

Marblehead Coastline
​According to legend, the Marblehead Coastline is haunted by the ghost of a wealthy woman who was robbed and murdered by pirates. According to the story, the pirates weren’t able to get the emerald ring she was wearing off of her finger, so they killed her and chopped off her finger.

Residents often report feeling cold spots, and seeing full bodied apparitions. Doors slam shut without warning, and the furniture will sometimes be rearranged or misplaced.

​The Hoyt Apartment Buildings, above the hardware store, is said to be haunted by the benevolent spirit of one of its former owners. At night, the spirit watches over tenants, and sometimes moves items around.

Methuen High School is said to be haunted by the ghost of a former janitor who hung himself in the ice rink. His ghost is seen regularly at night games and on weekends.

Red Tavern
Apparitions are sometimes seen in the kitchen area, and the ghost of a young girl is seen playing in the hallways. Strange noises and loud crashing is heard coming from the top floor, and growling is sometimes heard down in the basement.

​Behind the Middlefield town offices lies a small family burial plot, and in the far corner a tombstone with nothing written on it but the word “IT.” Those who visit report feeling an evil presence.

The Blue Door Inn
The Blue Door Inn is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young boy with a long, pale face. Cold spots are felt throughout the inn, and those who have seen the young boy report that he is usually crying, asking for a coat because he is cold.

Milford Middle School
Students report sometimes feeling a strange presence, or noticing someone behind them, but when they turn around nobody is there. Strange lights are also seen around the gymnasium at night.

Fontbonne Academy
The Fontbonne Academy is rumored to be haunted by the ghost of a former student who committed suicide by hanging herself from the auditorium balcony. Custodians who work the night shift report hearing lockers slamming and seats creaking when nobody is there, and doors sometimes slam shut by themselves.

According to local historians, this road used to be Indian territory. Locals report seeing a the ghosts of a family who walk down the street.

Monson Estate
Many people were tortured and killed at the Monson Estate when it was a hospital for mentally ill patients. Investigators report hearing doors slamming and objects moving around when nobody else is around.

North Adams

Hoosac Tunnel
Over 200 people died during the construction of the Hoosac Tunnel, and many of them are still there. Many visitors have reported seeing ghosts and apparitions here.

Once used as a speakeasy during the prohibition, The Chicken Box is now a popular bar and nightspot. Reports of strange apparitions in the parking lot, who appear to be dragging a chest to or from the building.

Old North Cemetery
Old North Cemetery is said to be haunted by the ghost of a 3-little girl named Mary. She sometimes appears to children, and tells them that she is looking for her father. In the early 1980s the city of Nantucket found an old gravestone while clearing brush on the outskirts of the cemetery. The name on the headstone reads: Mary Abby. She was three years old when she died.

Unitarian Memorial Church
The clock tower at the Nantucket Unitarian Church is said to be haunted by the ghost of its first pastor. His ghost sometimes appears to chastise children who are playing too loudly.

The Wauwinet Hotel
Lights turn on and off by themselves, and disembodied footsteps are heard. Guests have reported seeing the ghost of an elderly woman who is followed by the scent of flowers. Some of the maids won’t go in certain rooms alone.


New Bedford

Ash Street Jail
Inmates report feeling an unexplained feeling of dread. Some also report waking up with sleep paralysis, feeling as if someone is holding them down.

J.A. Parker School
At night, the chains on the front doors shake and rattle, and can be heard from a distance. A shadowy figure is seen throughout the school, and many students report a strange feeling at times. It is rumored to be haunted by the ghost of Mr. Sherman, one of the schools former principals.

Employees have reported seeing several different spirits in the New Bedford Free Public Library over the years. The first is the ghost of an older woman with dark hair, who is seen wearing a blue coat near the children’s book section.
